It is said that any area of human knowledge that develops will develop its own vocabulary. These seems obvious and necessary since our knowledge is intrinsically connected with our language and cognition.
It strikes me how certain languages completely lack expressions where others have just the right word. Some examples include schadenfreude, je ne sais quoi, ennui, and startup.
Here is a list of expressions. We already have some of them. This list is not limited to the primary topics of this site.
- _____ – [there must be a word for this in the north or mountains] a tangle of logs and debris blocking or partially blocking the flow within a stream or river, especially after a storm or after the winter.
- Source, source energy – that deepest life force within each of us, which seems to tap into all of our wisdom and power.
- Flow state, in the zone – an internal state where the emotional brain is fully engaged with the task at hand, so much so that the conscious brain can relax and merely observe. There are many famous examples of this from sport and performing arts, and creative work. This can occur within a team as well.
